The English Indices of Deprivation 2019 were published by MHCLG at 09:30 on Thursday 26 September 2019. The statistics relate to small areas, known as lower layer super output areas (or LSOAs). These areas have an average population of about 1,700.
Users often have lots of questions about the English Indices of Deprivation, such as what they can and cannot be used for, what they tell us, and how they are used. Read more here.
MHCLG have published the new data in multiple ways, including mappable formats such as shapefile and GeoPackage. You can also download the QGIS project used to create these maps.
In parallel with the publication of the data, MHCLG have also published a report which explains the methodology in more detail. We recommend users read this before using the data.
